The question:

What is Dawn of IYA2009 and what group has organized the movement?

You can provide me your answer one of two ways. You can email me at ninefireflies[at]gmail[dot]com or post your response in the comments section (however posting in comments will allow others to see, and possibly use, your answer). Cut off for answer submission will be Thursday the 1st, 9pm eastern time.

I will then collect all correct answers and draw a winner at random.

The winner will be blogged on Friday, along with the next idea for giving away another fat quarter of fabric.

Good luck crafters! Have a wonderful week!

An icon

Dec 12, 2008 at 02:38

Many of you may have heard that an icon died this week.

Betty Page

She was one of my idols.
She was beautiful, fierce, and fragile.

You can see more of her and read about her life here.

Or check out some fun videos on youtube.

This week's FFF question will be geared to Betty Page.

The question:

What was the title of Betty Page's documentary filmed in 1998?

The prize:

While I have not found any fabric regarding Betty Page, I do think the 'tattoo' fabric from Alexander Henry can represent the era. When I think of Sailor Jerry, I think of the 50's.

You can provide me your answer one of two ways. You can email me at ninefireflies[at]gmail[dot]com or post your response in the comments section (however posting in comments will allow others to see, and possibly use, your answer). Fun Fabric Friday Giveaway (FFF)

Nov 14, 2008 at 01:59

This is officially the second post regarding my Fun Fabric Friday giveaway. Moving forward it will be referred to as FFF for simplicity.

Last week's question: What two words did Sherlock Holmes use to refer to Irene Adler?
The answer: The woman.

Here is an image of the woman herself.

Actually, it is Lauren Bacall, the woman who portrayed Irene Adler and many other roles in her career. Stunning isn't she...

Now I would like to announce the winner (chosen at random, by my 2 year old, from all correct entries submitted).

Drum roll please.

The winner is Galaxie-Bleu! Congrats to you!

Thank you to all who submitted answers!

Now, to get down to the nitty gritty. Here is your question for this weeks FFF.

Here is an image of what you are playing for this week: A fat quarter of Munki Munki "paste" made from cotton corduroy on a light blue background. It is absolutely stunning.

This weeks question:

What was the title of the Heather Ross MUNKI MUNKI print that sparked controversy over copyright use?

You can provide me your answer one of two ways. You can email me at ninefireflies[at]gmail[dot]com or post your response in the comments section (however posting in comments will allow others to see, and possibly use, your answer). Cut off for answer submission will be Thursday the 20th, 9pm eastern time.

I will then collect all correct answers and draw a winner at random.

The winner will be blogged on Friday, along with the next idea for giving away another fat quarter of fabric.

Who was Irene Adler? The first FFF giveaway.

Nov 7, 2008 at 11:38

First I want to say that I feel like I lost sight of why I started this blog (well not really, I have just had a lot of crazy going on in my life over the last six months... more than my share I think).

Originally I started Nine Fireflies as an outlet to share my crafty goodness (and all things crafty) and keep my family and friends up to date on what is going on with our little family. Lately it has become more of the later and that is only because crafting has been at a minimum with remodeling and selling our home in North Carolina. Then moving into a small 600 square foot cottage in Florida. Lets just say the environment does not afford a lot of space for crafting. Did I mention it was tiny?

However, with our final move to La Casa in sight, I look forward to pulling my sewing machine, my beast (Gocco), and my fabrics out of storage and start creating until I go cross-eyed or pass out from bliss (whichever comes first).

On with my post... for those of you who know me (and those that do not)... I love all things Sherlock Holmes.

Now, back to the initial question. Who was Irene Adler?

The short answer, Irene Adler was the only person to ever "out smart" Sherlock Holmes (a woman... how fabulous).

The current question... Who IS Irene Adler?

She is the newest member of our family. I found her via CraigsList in Tampa Florida (only 7 hours away), but I couldn't resist her. Big THANK YOU goes out to my sister who drove her up to me (thank goodness she was already heading up this way for a visit). Only had her 3 weeks before I finally named her.

Yes, she is a polydactyl and has extra thumbs! Cute, isn't she!?!

What makes this Fun Fabric Friday?

If you can tell me what two words Sherlock Holmes used to refer to Irene Adler you will win a free fat quarter of fabric. And YES the answer is search-able on the internet.

The fat quarter up for grabs this week... Alexander Henry "Demi Heels" in blue!

You can provide me your answer one of two ways. You can email me at ninefireflies[at]gmail[dot]com or post your response in the comments section (however posting in comments will allow others to see, and possibly use, your answer). Cut off for answer submission will be Thursday the 14th, 9pm eastern time.

I will then collect all correct answers and draw a winner at random.

The winner will be blogged on Friday, along with the next idea for giving away another fat quarter of fabric.

Good luck crafters!
