Returning from vacation... well rested.

Mar 3, 2009 at 09:30

So the family has been gone this last week or so on a very unexpected trip. We went to south Florida to visit with the cousins. Benjamin had a blast, mommy did a lot of fabric shopping and papa worked (what's so new about that).

I did a small bit of crafting. I made the boys some pirate patches and I say there were a huge hit.

I also found little swords, pirate chest, and strings of beads that played the roll for treasure. A week later and I still heard, "walk the plank", "scurvy pirate", "my treasure"! It was too sweet for words.

Here are a few things I picked up for myself.

I love this new magazine Stuffed. While I am not a stuffie maker, I may have to try some of the items posted in this magazine.

Oh and the Alexander Henry fabric is the real deal, not the 2009 reproduction. I love the black background. I have no idea what I will make with it, but it has to be something fun!

More later.

And the winner is... Mardi Gras?

Feb 20, 2009 at 08:14

Just a quick note this morning to congratulate Marie at Heartfelt Handmade for winning this month's FFF. Please email me your address to ninefireflies[at]gmail[dot]com and I will get your fabric in the mail.

Today is a big day for us. We are off to see the King and Queen of Spain, literally, and we are going to the largest Mardi Gras celebration parade.

It is amazing. My hometown is celebrating its 450th anniversary this year. We are the oldest city in North America and by the look of the festivities sheet you would think we were a larger town than we really are. 450 days of celebrating continue. The fun started in May 2008 and will continue through until August 2009! Wow! Included are a Spanish wine festival, a battle re-enactment, and an open air museum that will take us back to the way things were when Tristan de Luna landed here.

I wish everyone a happy Mardi Gras and Laissez lez bon temps rouler!

I <3 junk shopping!

Feb 19, 2009 at 06:10

I love junk shopping!

What is the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Today that saying is true for me.

My first score of the day is a wonderfully huge new way for me to store my fabrics.

I shall call her... The Iron Giant.

While the gunmetal gray suits her name pretty well, I think I may have to paint her. At least her hard exterior so she won't look so cold.

(Watch out Beth, I may just find the fabric you are looking for!)

My next and greatest score of the day. Some really great vintage sheets.

You are seeing correctly. They are from the Wizard of Oz! Each sheet has got these wonderful images of Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, the Lion, the Scarecrow, and all of the other wonderful characters. I found two flat sheets, two fitted sheets, and two pillowcases all of this for a whopping $4.99!

I am sure at many points in their life there was a little girl (or two) that loved these sheets. Now it is my turn. I have no idea what I will do with them yet, but it will have to be something great!

Fun fabric Friday (02.13.06)

Feb 13, 2009 at 06:27

All right bloggers, because Valentine's Day is tomorrow and some of you may be getting candy and some not... I've decided to do a little giveaway this week because who does not like fabric!?!

Sound the alarms, we have a giveaway this week. All you have to do is leave a comment (good or bad... just be nice) and next Thursday (02.19.06) I will randomly select a winner to receive two, YES TWO, quarter yard cuts of fabrics. That is a total of a whole half yard.

(I'm snickering, are you snickering?)

Designer: Michele D'Amore for Marcus Brothers

Have a great weekend.

May your V-day be filled with cupcakes and fabric love!
